Title: ... Memories of Bill Ashurst and his Mum whilst playing for Penrith - by Col Whitby, Darwin NT, AU

To Dear Dave Byrne

I witnessed the inciddent that you refer to,but it was not an internatioal game but agame at Penrith Park. Bills mum had come to Australia to visit Bill and watch him play, alas however ten minuts into the game Bill received his marching orders.

As half time neared Mrs Ashurst made her way to the tunnel and waited on the Ref. to make his way up the ramp.Although the tunnel was fenced off, the ref chose the wrong side side i.e as to pass right under Mrs Ashurst.

I dont Know what was in the handbag but it made a solid sound.

When quiried about it later Bill's reply was "my Mother loves me".
