Title: ... p30 - Memories of Cliff Watson - playing for Wollongong in 74GF - by David Freeme (the ballboy)

i remember the 1974 grand final in the illawarra comp between wollongong and corrimal.

i was the ball boy that day for wollongong where cliff watson was on the loosing side.

i was only 8 years old but i remember  watson the former english prop forward who played in the infamous 1973 grand final with cronulla against manly. was in the dressing sheds after the game at the wollongong showground covered with blood on his face wasnt a pretty site

he looked very dispontent on the loss

i went over where he was sitting and remember putting my hand on his shoulder.  he picked me up and smiled he had no teeth.

i never forgot that smile and blood on his face but realise as time went on they were very hard men.
