Ken Thornett was and still is in my mind the finest full back Leeds have ever had and possibly Australia too.

He was known in Leeds as the Bucket(named after another Leeds Full back)because he never once dropped a ball but almost did one day...he was under his own posts and set to take a very high ball with the sun in his eyes. The ball hit the bucket and shot out in front of him what appeared to be about 6 yards or more, in a split second he dived full length and caught it, I have never seen anything like it since, this may not sound difficult but it was the length he dived from a standing start that makes it memorable.

Only a short time at Leeds but he helped them win their first ever Championship in 1961.

Best wishes
Marshall
