Keith Barnes. 199 appearances for Balmain
(4th behind Jack, Benny and Sirro), captain of the
Kangaroos and appearing in 3 GFs for the Tigers.
Was one of the men that refused to sell Balmain's
soul to Super league. To cap it off, he is just
a brilliant man. Although i've only met him a few
times, you can see what a geuninely lovely bloke
he is..

For mind it was Blocker, Junior, Sirro, Benny and Jimmy Jack because all had a chance to
leave for more dollars but chose the club and thier
mates instead.
Barnes gets an honourable mention for keeping
them together and for giving so much to the Tigers
himself but he was before my time as far as his
playing days.

historically
keith barnes played all his footy in sydney
for the tigers, late 50's? to 68
retired the year before they won in 1969
and started a host of various admin roles in 1970,
that last for decades?
more than 30 years a tiger.

My two bobs worth, I have to agree with Ozbash first,
when it comes to Balmain there is only one, Laurie
Nichols.
I take my hat off to Keith Barnes, Wayne Pearce
and the band of other loyal servants. The Hardwicks,
Neil, etc.

How can Laurie Nicholls get a mention on
this website. Has there ever been a better supporter
of a club? Was it possible that he was mad? Shadow
Boxing, singlet wearing, touring with the kangaroos.
Throwing uppercuts when the Black and Gold were
on a roll. Had a soft spot for the Chocolate soldiers
as he lived in the nearby Blue Mountains. Passed
away before Balmain merged with Wests.

My greatest clubman is: Laurie Nichols?
The man I knew as 'Uncle Snow'. He is my uncle and
a much loved uncle at that. Now he has gone I feel
I have to defend his dedicated following of Balmain.
He was an absolute supporter of Balmain and had
yellow and black blood running through his veins!!!
No he wasn't mad! He was a person that gave himself
totally to his team. He was one of them. Punching
in the air and getting the croud riled up yelling
'tigers, tigers, tigers,' was his way of showing
the team how dedicated he was. We love you Uncle
Snow and I know your up there directing the Tigers
for the Grand Final of 2005

I wish to nominate kerry hemsley. he was loyal to
the balmain tigers, a very hard player and is still a legend today.
