After attending numerous games of league from being a small child on dad's shoulder's, including many cup-finals nothing really matches the Wigan v Hull Challenge Cup Final at Wembley.

Despite having followed the game for the best part of 30 years this was the first match at Wembley that my dad had attended and I don't think I could have picked a better game to take him to.

The whole day had everything, from the pre-match build up on Wembley Way, seats almost on the half way line and so on. The game itself was a classic, with both teams holding the upperhand at stages and the result in doubt right until the end. As Lancastrians the game ended on a high for us with a Wigan win but the scoreline was irrelevant after what happened at the end of the game. Two supporters - one from Wigan, one from Hull - both in tears and hugging each other over a barrier. To me that summed up the ethos of the great game of Rugby League, that regardless of your colours the game is really the only thing that matters.

I am not the greatest at putting things in writing but it sums up my feelings after 35 years of following the game
