This story was relayed by Pete Barker the son of Harry Barker
Pete wrote: "as you will appreciate my Dad is in his 80's. And a lifelong Wigan fan."
I will now write his words verbatim;
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Going to school in Wigan in the 1930's was enjoyable although we had nothing, but as everybody we knew was in the same boat , we didn't bother.
One of the things we looked forward to was going to Central Park , on Saturday afternoon, when Wigan played at home.
We would then wait for JIM SULLIVAN who always had a pocket full of toffees which he used to dish out to us.
After that we would wait for what they called three quarter time, when the gates would be opened , and we could get on the ground for free, as we didn't have any money.
