The 1977 Rugby League Grand Final went down in History as the first ever tied Grand Final. Even with twenty minutes of extra time, could the sides be split, and the game was set down to be replayed the following Saturday.

Parra had knocked out the Bob Fulton led Roosters to earn the right to face Harry Baths St George Dragons. The date was September the 17th.

Played before 65,959 people the gripping grand final ended in a 9 all draw after the addition of 20 minutes extra time.

It was a fluctuating struggle with saints bolting to a commanding lead and the Eels steadily whittling away the deficit in a torrid second half. In the 62nd minute Parra Coach Fearnley appeared to make a winning move when he sent on the injured John Bomber Peard. His pin point kicking game, particularly the high bomb had proved the down fall of many sides during the season.

He linked with cronin to put Sulkowicz over for the equalizer late into the game, but the Cronin pressure conversion veered to the side of the upright and the game was forced to go into extra time.

In a torrid period both defences held and the game was scheduled for the historic replay the following Tuesday.
