The 1981 Final was played at the famous Sydney Cricket Ground on the 13th September between Newtown and Manly.

The match was won by Newtown and allowed them the right to face the Jack Gibson coached Parramatta in the Grand Final. (See memorable matches No24)

The final will always be remembered for the notorius all in brawl with the main combatants Newtowns Steve Bowden and Manly hardman Mark Broadhurst.

Bowden was marched for the incident and was unable to take part in the Grand Final.

Team Era received some great pics from David Benham, living in China. To view a larger image of the pics just click on one of the images. (thanks David.)
