Graham Eadie

"I was very happy at Manly, and I think Ken Arthurson had a lot to do with that. He was the man that gave the place its harmony. He kept all the good players together, many of them stayed for a lot less than they were offered from other clubs.

You only have to look at the other clubs to see why Manly is so successful.

The others are always chopping and changing with players and officials, whereas Manly has a whole host of blokes who played more than 200 or more first grade games.

Thompson, Fulton, Randall, Vautin, Bob Batty, Freddie Jones, Max Krilich and myself - that's a lot of people in the '200' club."

Manly

1976

Eadie played for Manly between 1971 and 1983. Started off as a 17 year old.

Well I can remember the 1976 Grand Final. 1976 was the first year I began following League. Manly played Parramatta in the Grand Final that year. It was Parramatta's first ever appearance in a Grand Final. Parramatta beat Manly in the major semi two weeks before.

Parramaata led 10-7 at half time but thanks to two Eadie penalty goals Manly edged ahead 11-10. About midway through the second half Parramatta were attacking the Manly line when they got a penalty. Parramatta decided to deploy the famous "wedge". The wedge was simply the forward pack in scrum formation with the hooker carrying the ball and hopefully scoring. The wedge barged for the line. Eadie simply tackled the guy holding the ball and got under him so that the wedge was held up over the line.

Eadie effectively tackled the entire wedge and in doing so saved the day for Manly.

The wedge was subsequently banned.

HALIFAX

1970

00/00/2005

Hi thought i'd let you know that Graham Eadie also played for Halifax. He came out of retirement to replace Smoking Joe Kilroy (who played fullback for Fax in our championship season of 85-86). Both players had different styles, Kilroy dodged, spun and stepped around defences, Eadie just ran over the top of them. In Graham Eadies first season with Halifax he broke the record for tries scored by a fullback with 16 i believe. In that season he also helped Halifax win the Challenge Cup, scored a try in the final, oh and he won the Lance Todd trophy for man of the match as well. Not a bad effort for a guy who had been out of the game for three years.
