I wish to nominate MIKE COULMAN as a serious hard man of Rugby League.
An ex-policenman, COULMAN was signed form Moseley RU by Chairman Brian Snape for Salford RLFC.
Mike went on to win two championship medals with The Red Devils and played for Great Britain.
His most memorable moment was when he tamed the Great Arthur Beetson in
a Test match in Aus.
Not many people have done that to "Artie".
Step forward MIKE COULMAN.

Quigs, a million thanks for including Mike Coulman in the "Hard Men" list. I have been trying to find a photo of him to send to you and also a bit more info on him.
Another story about Mike is when he was playing for England RL v Wales RL he had a set-to with Colin Dixon. "Dicko" was not far behind Coulman in the way of toughness.
The pair of them went at it like Ali and Frazier. Both were sent off. Strange thing is, both were prop forwards for Salford!! They were back in the team together the next weekend.
Cheers mate. Great site. Roy

Regarding Mike Coulman,
i remember many a set two between Mike and the great welsh hard
man Jim Mills
(dirty Ba*****), one of which was at gods ground the Willows
during a England vs Wales game.
Played in awful weather i dont think any one fancied the night out,
within ten mins of the start they both kicked off.
After a sever telling
off by mr F Lindop, the game resumed however the very next scrum it
went off again with these two players. Resulting in both of them being
sent from the field, as both left the field Coulman winked at Mills and
both left with a great big smile on their faces.

Colin Dixon of Salford was without doubt one off the
games truley hard men.
Playing against St Helens the scrum went down
near the saints line, whether or not some thing racially abusive was said
to colin only them people will know, but what we the crowd know is that
the scrum went up and fists were flying.
Dixon took the whole of the saints front row on, on his own
it got that bad that even Mike Coulman could
not pull him off one of the Chisnall brothers.
It took at least
five minuets for them to calm him down, before he was sent from the field
of play.
U dont think he was a hard man ask any Leeds fans.

Michael coulman was fast ,strong ,hard and a devasting tackler ,he ran onto the ball at speed and had jaw breaking hand off.
This man demolished front rows with relative ease .
I have NEVER seen a prop as tough ,to many fans micks nickname was the BEAR, enough said
