Dougie Greenall, St. Helens and Great Britain Centre...Great character off the field, his party piece was a take off of Al Jolson...

The story begins with the Clive Churchill Tour of 1952...When they came to play the Saints, Sept 1952, Dougie played with his fore-arm strapped, and the Saints licked the Aussies 26-8( the only club side to beat them)

Dougie went through the entire side, and one of the Aussies was interviewed by the local press and observed all we heard from the crowd was 'Give 'em Mammy Dougie' and we soon found out what this meant...

He then toured Australia in 1954, and hordes of Aussie press were at Sydney Airport to see the man who had wiped the floor with the big brave Aussies....expecting to see someone resembling Big Jim Mills, they were astounded to see a less than 12 Stone weakling...that was Dougie...still alive and kicking.

On the field doug was as hard as nails always hitting anything that moves. He toured with G.B Now Doug well into his 70,s can only talk about the as he calls it great days of rugby and if he comes into the supermarket where I work you can bet I get into trouble for talking to long to this great rugby man.
