My most memorable moment was watching my mighty
magpies beat south sydney to win the grand final
at the S.C.G.
We were underdogs and no one expected wests to win
except the wests supporters.
I yelled so much I couldn't talk for most of the
week.
I think it was 1953.
I remember Des Dines played,I don't know where he
came from, but I don't remember him playing with
wests before that day
MORE EARLY MEMORIES FROM ROY -
received 8/5/06 - Magpies 1948
the first match I watched Wests play was at
Pratten park, I guess it was about 1949, I was about
10, they were playing
Balmain and wests won by bout 50 points, I think.
I remember Keith Holman
being immaculatly dressed and groomed,and Frank
Stanmore playing
alongside him, they were majic together,they seemed
to read each others
minds.
I followed them through from that time going
to all three grades and
knew all the players in all three grades.
