Poppa
Clay passed away in 1987 at a relatively
young age. He had a history of heart
trouble. Something he never lacked when
he put on the Red and White of St George.

Brian Poppa Clay Player Profile
Brian Poppa Clay reputedly never once in his long career sold a support player the "dump". He would rather take the tackle and die with the ball then subject a player to a "hit". He was a feared tackler, the one the opposition feared the most during Saints mighty reign.
Clay played in 8 of Saints grand final winning sequence, and would of been 10 but he broke his arm twice and missed the 62 and 63 Grand Finals. The picture typifies Clay's defensive style.
