| GEORGE
PIGGINS |
PLAYED FOR
CLUB/COUNTRY |
Australia,
South Sydney |
|
DESCRIPTION |
George was a dogged old style hooker who never took
a backward step. Piggins followed on from Elwyn Walters
as the souths No 12. (that was the hookers No. in those
days)
His legendary confrontations with the Manly wild pom
Mal Reilly were famous. Rugby League was the last thing
on their minds when their paths crossed on the paddock.
George Piggins inspirational skills and fighting quality
were shown when he as President of South Sydney took
on and won the right to have the Mighty Souths (and
I am a Shark Supporter) readmitted to their rightfull
spot as a valued member of the national rugby league.
