BRIAN 'POPPA' CLAY

PLAYED FOR
CLUB/COUNTRY

Australia, Newtown, St George
Passed away in 1987

DESCRIPTION

Brian Poppa Clay reputedly never once in his long career sold a support player the "dump". He would rather take the tackle and die with the ball then subject a player to a "hit". He was a feared tackler, the one the opposition feared the most during Saints mighty reign. Clay played in 8 of Saints grand final winning sequence, and would of been 10 but he broke his arm twice and missed the 62 and 63 Grand Finals. The picture typifies Clay's defensive style.
Brian Poppa Clay passed away in 1987.
