JOHNNY RAPER

PLAYED FOR
CLUB/COUNTRY

Australia, Newtown, St George.

DESCRIPTION

Johnny Raper was destined for Rugby League greatness after making his debut for Newtown as a teenager. He was quickly lured to St George (see my story) and soon emerged as a dominant figure on the club and international scene. Raper toured on three successive Roo tours.
Raper was captain when the Aussies clinched the Ashes for the first time in England in Swinton in 1967. The game became known as the Swinton Massacre. It was arguably Rapers finest game.
