STEVE ROGERS

PLAYED FOR
CLUB/COUNTRY

Australia, Cronulla, St George, Illawarra and Widnes UK

DESCRIPTION

Sludge Rogers was in an elite class of centers. He was often compared the the great Gasnier. He bloomed under the guidance of Tommy Bishop. It was Bishop who opened up the Sharks style of play and this suited a young Rogers to a "T". With a robust center Eric Archer inside him they proved to be a top pairing. But that had nothing on the combination that Rogers had with Cronin on the International level. Their combination held for a record 6 test matches and they were a big part of the invincibles and the immortals. Rogers was a three time roo tourist.
Rogers won the Rothmans Medal in 1975.
A point scoring machine both for country and club. Rogers still holds the record for most points for the Sharks with 1253.
