ALAN PRESCOTT

PLAYED FOR
CLUB/COUNTRY

--Great Britain, St Helens, Halifax

DESCRIPTION

Alan Prescott was one of the most respected prop forwards of postwar football. He made his senior football debut on the wing for Halifax at the age of 15. His test debut against Australia was at Headingley in 1952. When he arrived in Australia as Captain of GB, he had not missed a Test against Australia since making his debut. His first game as captain was in the first test in 1956 series in England and the Fisrt test at the SCG pm June 4, 1958 was his 10th in succession.

Through Prescotts illustrious career, he is best remembered for playing 77 minutes of the 2nd test against the Aussies with a broken arm. His heroics helped steer his side to victory and the subsequent winning of the 1958 Ashes Series downunder.

The English Rugby League saw fit to remember this remarkable man when they struck the Alan Prescott Medal for the Man of the Series for Ashes played in England.
Cronulla's Brett Kimorley was the first recipient of such prestigious award.
