Title: ... P72 - Neville HORNERY, Talented Nutjob, by Terry Mullane, Quakers Hill NSW

He just pumped in these uppercuts to the Easts hooker's face

I also remember the 9 week suspension incident. It was in about 1968 when he played for Wests.

In those days they sometimes televised the 2nd half of games on Sunday afternoon. Ron Casey was commentating (or trying to). Wests were playing Easts and Hornery was in the second row. He just pumped in these uppercuts to the Easts hooker's face who couldn't protect himself as his arms were looped around the front rowers. (Peter Muscat?)

It was all there live on b&w television. Real nasty.

It was replayed constantly (new technology at the time).

I was only about 8 at the time but I've never forgotten it.

With C'bury, he was one of the first players to perfect the 'shoulder charge' - to devastating effect for a smallish forward.
